Open House in a 5 U's Pandemic

Hosting Open House in the midst of a pandemic. Many districts made the decision to remain virtual for the health and safety of their learning community. Though the decision was made to begin school via remote learning the usual operations of schools continued such as Open House. The challenge was creating a fun stress-free virtual presentation. Campuses had to think out of the box for ways to connect with parents and students during this 5 U's moment in education as it was unexpected, unanticipated, unforeseen, unpredictable, and unprecedented. The campus principal wanted something fun. She presented me with a brief idea of what she wanted parents to see. I began the process of creating a Virtual Open House.
A Google Drive folder was created and shared with teachers to house their personalized waving Bitmoji replica, along with their voice/presentation recordings. Next, a Google Slide template was created with the doors, wall, and floor for a perfect backdrop. Bitmoji's waving outside doors were used to create personal space for each teacher to provide parents information about their teaching style, schedules, and learning environment. Bitmoji and voice/presentation recordings were linked to individual and partner teachers. The stage was set and ready for the show.
The delivery was composed of a fun, colorful, full of personality presentation using Bitmojis and recordings for a virtual open house experience. Although personal recordings are "That's Not Your Best" idea for replacing a face to face connection, it was the next best thing.
Drop a comment! I would love to hear how other educators delivered their open house during this virtual/remote learning time.
That’s very creative . Our open
ReplyDeletehouse wasn’t as fun as that . We just made personalized videos that showed how we look with and without the mask and to show off our classroom since parents aren’t allowed in the building this .
That was a very interesting and creative way that Open House was done. Makes me wish my son open house was just as inviting.
