Fitbit Woes! Challenge Accepted...

Image
Fitbit Woes! Challenge Accepted... How many of you seized the opportunity to join millions of subscribers in step challenges?  Well, insurance companies, businesses, and school districts partnered with Fitbit to provide discounts to their employees.  Win, win right!  Last year, I upgraded my Flex to Inspire at a favorable discount. Stepping with Inspire was a breeze the tracker logged my exercise activity, I could view my step quickly, as well as view the time. However, I was not that impressed with the band but I was happy with how securely it connected.  Until it happened! A year later the side connection mechanism broke.  However, there was a fix. A Somoder Slim Leather Band Compatible with Fitbit Inspire HR/Fitbit Inspire, Vintage Genuine Leather Band with Carved Protective Cover and Fashion Decorative Accessories for Women/Men. I absolutely love this product. I purchased Deep Red to match my tracker. The tracker was delivered in a cute tin can. Check...

5 U's of Sibling Companionship

Image
So, I have 3 ranges of grade-level children. They are an 8-year-old 3rd grader, a 12-year-old 7th grader, and a 16-year-old 11th grader.  The district was on fall break and boredom had sat in for the youngest of the 3. At their ages sometimes they often operate in the 5 U’s state of mind being unaware, unconcerned, unsuspecting, unconscious, and unwilling to engage in siblingly companionship. So, the very opinionated, adorable, little angel decided she would use her free time creating math tests for her brother's. The oldest brother happens to come downstairs just as she completes his test. "Oh! Hi, Nate here's your test!" "What? Cap! I am not taking a test. I am on break. No way! You can't be for real! Girl! Go find something else to do." In good mommy fashion, just take the test. Nate continues to protest. "Wait no!"  Even though he doesn't agree, he sits down to take the test being the good brother that he is. "Hey, Siri!" Lit...

Open House in a 5 U's Pandemic

Image
Photo by Dr. NMGreen Hosting Open House in the midst of a pandemic. Many districts made the decision to remain virtual for the health and safety of their learning community. Though the decision was made to begin school via remote learning the usual operations of schools continued such as Open House. The challenge was creating a fun stress-free virtual presentation. Campuses had to think out of the box for ways to connect with parents and students during this 5 U's moment in education as it was  unexpected, unanticipated, unforeseen, unpredictable, and unprecedented .  The campus principal wanted something fun. She presented me with a brief idea of what she wanted parents to see. I began the process of creating a Virtual Open House.  A Google Drive folder was created and shared with teachers to house their personalized waving Bitmoji replica, along with their voice/presentation recordings. Next, a Google Slide template was created with the doors, wall, and floor for...

Workplace Embittered 5 U's

Image
You made the decision to work hard each and every day. You invested time, energy & money in your dream career. The opportunity comes your way and you land the perfect job at an amazing workplace. Until it happens! You realize you work for an embittered boss. An embittered boss is someone who uses their power to make staff feel like 5 U's.  What are workplace 5 U's?  Workplace 5 U's is a unhealthy, unppreciative, uncomfortable, underpaid, and unreasonable environment. Daily you dredge going to work, your creativity is stifled, and you feel stuck. Well guess what? The workplace 5 U's is not an end to your career.  Remind your self that you are awesome, you're worthy, you've worked too hard to give up, you deserve better and there is better. Do not be afraid to know your worth and walk in your purpose! Take time to self evaluate and make the decision to change "That's Not Your Best" to what is best for me.

An Idea for the 5 U's Space

Image
The day begins with an idea! Mind searching. You're thinking can I do this? Is it practical? If I do, and it doesn't work, then what? What if it does work? Bright ideas occur quite often, so here's my bright idea to give purpose to a 5 U's space. At the top of my stairs, the home builders thought it would be a good use of square footage to leave a sizable nothing space. Yes, that's right I said "nothing". I thought, how can we use this waste of space? Fi rst idea, let's create a workspace with a cute kids metal Lighting McQueen computer desk so our children could use the computer. Their granny purchased computer learning games to keep them engaged. Yeah right! Worst idea ever, they spent 2 minutes a day in this space with me sitting next to them. After, a few weeks they had no desire to use the space. Months, then years passed with no usage. Space became a collector of unwanted things. Things were placed in the drawers of the desk, in front of the de...
